Jennifer Lawrence is the New Katniss

Anyone who has read the Hunger Games trilogy has most likely been curious about the upcoming movie in production. Late last week, we got our first confirmation on a character. Jennifer Lawrence, who most recently received Oscar hype for her role in Winter's Bone, was confirmed to play the lead role of Katniss Everdeen.

Meh. I can see it but let's be honest, casting a 20 year old is a bit of a stretch to play the 16 year old Katniss. However, it's not like we haven't seen age gaps before. I continue to follow the project with an open mind and hope Ms. Lawrence will not let us down. Besides, I can totally see her kicking ass with a bow and arrow.

New Captain America Trailer!

While I'm trying to keep my focus on Suckerpunch coming out tomorrow, I had to post this. Get ready for the first Avenger, folks. Still trying to figure out how they will pull off Red Skull without making people laugh but Hugo Weaving should certainly help.

He Did More Than Chop Wood with That Ax

This beautiful work of art is the book I will be starting spring break with. For those who have yet to see this, here's the gist:
Indiana, 1818. Moonlight falls through the dense woods that surround a one-room cabin, where a nine-year-old Abraham Lincoln kneels at his suffering mother's bedside. She's been stricken with something the old-timers call 'Milk Sickness.'
"My baby boy..." she whispers before dying.
Only later will the grieving Abe learn that his mother's fatal affliction was actually the work of a vampire.
When the truth becomes known to young Lincoln, he writes in his journal, "henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall become a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose..." Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the White House.
This author is the same guy who wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which tied Jane Austen's words with his own to create a whole new twist on the story. It was a hit as a regular novel but I myself read the graphic novel form. Pretty bitchin read. Hopefully, with Lincoln's bloody life I will truly learn if this historical- horror-fiction genre is a good one. For those who don't read it and don't plan to, expect the movie in theaters June 2012. Thank god we live in a time where movies like this are made.

Master of Fright

Yup. This pumpkin king was drawn completely in ballpoint pen. Don't believe me? check out bri-chan's deviantart page. She has a ton of awesome sketches and a lot of Disney stuff. Jack is easily one of my favorites, though.
